Lake Umber

At a Glance

There are technically two Lake Umbers: the one everyone recognizes, at the base of the First Escarpment on the west edge of Thay at the border with Thesk and Aglarond, and the long narrow Upper Lake Umber, at the top of the escarpment.

Alternatively, you can think of them as one lake… with a waterfall in the middle.

The River Umber

Shevas Tam

At a Glance

Shevas Tam was a necromancer, and the father of Szass Tam.

Somewhere around 1000 DR, he slew the members of Thay’s Guild of Portagers and turned them into zombies. He then left them to continue their jobs.

The Citadel

At a Glance

The Citadel, perched on the Thaymount, is believed to have been built by a lizardfolk race before the rise of Raumathar. The tunnels beneath the fortress lead down into the Underdark, to a large population of troglodytes, and beyond them to the drow of Undrek’Thoz… specifically the city of Fyvrek’Zek.

Thaymount

At a Glance

The Thaymount is the central landmark in Thay. The most noticeable feature of the Thaymount is the Citadel, a fortress built before the founding of Raumathar.

The Thaymount contains a large amount of gold, discovered shortly before the founding of Thay.

Surmarsh

At a Glance

A marsh on the northern border of Thay. The marsh is inhabited by lizardfolk, who survive by forming treaties with the Tharchion of Surthay. The towns of Surthay and Tezir-on-the-Marsh lie on the edges of the marsh.
