The reason I have two pics posted here is not the overall retardedness of the look —which is staggering— my issue is that the sketch is better than the finished product. The sketch looks like a stupid beast with a pretty intimidating carapace. The colored picture, which appears in the MM, looks like a stupid beast which got caramel drizzled on its back. Which might explain the befuddled expression on its face. There’s more threat/danger in the sketch than there is in the colored picture. The jaws in the sketch are poor but at least there’s some suggestion of muscles… the colored picture lacks any attempt at all in this area. The whole head is stupid, in both, but it’s worse in the final draft. There is literally nothing better about the colored picture except that it’s colored… and given the narrow range of the color palette, even that bit of superiority is open to debate. Bottom line: you made the tarrasque look retarded, and then you made it worse. A picture of the tarrasque needs to say “I am the biggest, baddest beast in the world!” If you can’t draw that picture, then don’t draw the tarrasque. The DMG II picture below is much better, both in terms of scene and the tarrasque itself, because it actually approaches that goal.

The Xaeyruudh Campaign

The tarrasque is classified as an abomination in 4e. This is an interesting idea, and I’m considering it for the Xaeyruudh campaign.

Remorhaz

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A magical beast.

Some show their respect for the remorhaz by trying to ride them, including the monks of the Yellow Rose and the Nakulutiuns of Ahtitlak.

Some of the more intelligent remorhaz of the High Ice venerate Augaurath as a deity.

Variations

In the Opoboquo Valley of the Great Glacier, there’s a distinct type of remorhaz. This species is half the size of a standard remorhaz and lacks the Swallow Whole ability. Damage from body heat is also halved, and metal weapons are not destroyed.
