Appearance
What You See
Based on certain assumptions, a living being loses up to 80% of its body weight in the process of drying out.
The aforementioned assumptions are based on very cursory research on Google:
- Blood accounts for about 7% of a person’s body weight
- Internal organs total about 12% of a person’s body weight
- Approximately 60% of human body weight is water
Ancient mummification involved removal of the internal organs, with some amount of dehydration occurring over time depending on the technology and skill involved in the mummification process.
Result: an average human female mummy might weigh anywhere from 25 to 95 lbs depending on age and circumstances. An average human male mummy would range from 35 to 130 lbs in the same circumstances.
