At a Glance
Mephits are like the sprites of the Inner Planes. They’re small winged humanoids who are always getting into everything. For the most part they’re curious and mischievous, rather than malicious or sadistic, but there are exceptions — it’s best to avoid groups of ash and salt mephits.
There are at least nineteen types of mephits; sixteen corresponding to the elemental planes and three known oddballs.
- Air, earth, fire, and water mephits are associated directly with the elemental planes
- Ice, magma, ooze, and smoke mephits are associated with the para-elemental planes
- Lightning, mineral, radiance, and steam mephits are associated with the positive quasi-elemental planes
- Ash, dust, salt, and void mephits are associated with the negative quasi-elemental planes
- Glass, mirror, and sulfur mephits arise from other sources
