Mishtan

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A community of Mulhorand.

Mishtan is the entrance to the Land of the Dead, and as such the town is dominated by the church of Osiris. At flood times, the town is overflowing with masons, craftsmen, and slaves.

Visiting

What You See

From a distance, Mishtan resembles a large city; it accommodates about 30,000 residents in relative comfort during the tomb-building season. For the remainder of every year however, the population is much smaller, making many parts of the city look abandoned. One thing remains the same; the dominant feature of the city is always the sprawling central temple of Osiris.

The temple is marble, typical in its conservative Osirian design. Like the town, the temple is simple and functional, utterly lacking in expensive furnishings and fixtures.

The remainder of the city is clay brick, with very little effort put into “dressing it up” or making things overly comfortable. There are no noble dwellings here, and no part of the city stands higher than the floor of the temple. Except for the temple, and the sheer size of the city, it would look much like a typical fishing village along one of Mulhorand’s rivers.

In short, there’s nothing most adventurers would find worth journeying here to see, or steal.

Politics

Who Rules

Temis, the Precept of Mishtan, governs the town and the Land of the Dead.

Who Really Rules

Temis is in charge, officially. However, the church of Osiris wields ultimate power here… particularly during the tomb-building season when the incarnation of Osiris is often present.
