At a Glance
serpentine is a sort of catch-all term for several related minerals including bowenite,1 picrolite, ricolite, taxoite, verde-antique, williamsite,1 and poor man’s jade. Most of these are sold as serpentine stone and used mainly for carvings — they’re not jewelry-grade.
The finest williamsite is vivid, translucent green, and it’s cut into cabochons and faceted gems and set into ceremonial weaponry, harnesses, and jewelry.
