Bruce Cordell

Source: http://brucecordell.blogspot.com/2013/07/farewell-wizards-and-thank-you.html

In a perfect world, we would know the true author of every sentence that’s uttered. When corporations are concerned, however, accountability doesn’t exist. We only hear/see the statements people make, and we only see their faces attached. There is no way to discern truth.

It’s easy to call stupid where I see it, and only natural to attach the (sometimes significant) animus to the head from which the words issue. Bruce Cordell’s head is among them. However, I’ve never even met the man, let alone separated his thoughts from the machine that is WoTC. The truth is that I know nothing of his hopes or intentions. I see only the words that he says, and I haven’t even seen all of those. I don’t know how hard his strings have been pulled, or how often, or by whom.

So the best course of thought is to assume that he said what he was told to say. Innocent until proven guilty… or something like that. It’s the puppeteer I want, not the marionette.

And if I assume the best of Bruce Cordell, then it follows that perhaps he’s leaving WotC because he finally got sick enough of the disparity between what he wants to say and what he’s required to say that he was forced to find employment doing something more gentle on his conscience.

To the extent that this assumption is true, I salute and commend him. Perhaps time will bring him the opportunity and impetus to speak freely about what he would have liked to accomplish if it had been Bruce Cordell of the Coast.

I wish you a future that mirrors your hopes, Bruce.
