Blink Ring

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

This ring can cast blink, invisibility, or mirror image, and also functions as a cloak of displacement. All powers must be invoked by command word.

3.5e Pricing

Blink and displacement are 3rd level spells; invisibility and mirror image are 2nd level spells. Caster level should be determined for mirror image but we can use minimum caster levels for the other spells since the only variable in those spells is duration and this is an on-command item (unlimited charges).

So choose or roll on this table for mirror image caster level.

Random CL (images)
001-438 3 (1d4+1 images)
439-657 6 (1d4+2 images)
658-803 9 (1d4+3 images)
804-912 12 (1d4+4 images)
913-000 15 (1d4+5 images)

Our pricing shapes up like this.

  • blink: 3 x 5 x 1800
  • displacement: 3 x 5 x 1800
  • invisibility: 2 x 3 x 1800
  • mirror image: 2 x CL x 1800, where CL is the mirror image caster level you determined above

There’s one final adjustment. Find the highest value in the four bullet points above. If the mirror image CL is 3 or 6, your highest number will come from blink and displacement; if the mirror image CL is 9 or above, mirror image will be the highest value. In any case, the highest number gets left alone (multiplied by 1). Sum all the other values and multiply by 1.5 because they’re additional unrelated powers in the same item. Then add those two numbers together for your final price.

Example 1: Maximum Price.

  1. blink: 3 x 5 x 1800 = 27,000
  2. displacement: 3 x 5 x 1800 = 27,000
  3. invisibility: 2 x 3 x 1800 = 10,800
  4. mirror image: 2 x 15 x 1800 = 54,000
  5. The biggest value is 54,000, and the sum of everything else is 64,800
  6. 64,800 x 1.5 = 97,200
  7. Total price = 54,000 + 97,200 = 151,200

Example 2: Minimum Price.

  1. blink: 3 x 5 x 1800 = 27,000
  2. displacement: 3 x 5 x 1800 = 27,000
  3. invisibility: 2 x 3 x 1800 = 10,800
  4. mirror image: 2 x 3 x 1800 = 10,800
  5. The biggest value is 27,000, and the sum of everything else is 48,600
  6. 48,600 x 1.5 = 72,900
  7. Total price = 27,000 + 72,900 = 99,900
