Khelben Arunsun

At a Glance

Khelben Arunsun is a Chosen of Mystra, consort of Laeral, a senior Harper, one of the masked Lords of Waterdeep, and a prominent wizard of the Sword Coast North. He is known to many simply as the Blackstaff.

Though he never admits it, he is widely surmised by Waterdhavians to be one of the Lords of the city. He resides in Blackstaff Tower.

He is noted for rescuing Laeral from the Crown of Horns, and later assisting her and Alduth in destroying the demon lord Arlgolcheir.

He has tutored several prominent mages including Malchor Harpell, Nain Keenwhistler, and Savengriff, and could call on their assistance if necessary. He also has friends, including Elminster. Other allies include the Knights of Myth Drannor, the Seven Sisters, and an unknown number of individuals and adventuring bands who owe him a favor.

As the Spellplague approaches, Khelben splits from the Harpers. His followers are subsequently known as the Moonstars.
