The Swagdar

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

The Swagdar is a steppe outside Halruaa. Dambrath claims the land, but is unable or unwilling to enforce it… not that anyone else wants it. Everyone else regards it as a lawless region best avoided.

Neighboring nations and regions include Halruaa to the west, the Shaar to the north, the Forest of Amtar to the east, and Rethild to the south.

The year, in the Xaeyruudh campaign, is 1365 DR. It is unknown who, if anyone, controls the Swagdar.

The Black Ash Plain

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

The Black Ash Plain is a broad badlands area extending south from the Smoking Mountains to the River Alamber.

Hot, acidic ash and tephra falling from the perpetual clouds over the mountain range has formed hardened ridges in some places, silty dunes in others, and elsewhere has partially dissolved the ground.  The latter effect, in particular, is dramatically worsened by flooding from the River Alamber.  The result is an uneven, unpredictable, and dangerous landscape.

Understandably, there’s not much wildlife here, but certain creatures tolerate or even appreciate the environment.  Notable among these are the ash giants who have settled the area and built a successful business selling the ash to farmers of the Greenfields, who use it to improve their soil.

Badlands

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

Badlands comprise one of ten categories of terrestrial environments, the others being deserts, forests, hills, marshes, moors, mountains, plains, swamps, and subterranean.

A badlands is a dry area characterized by extensive erosion of the rock and soils. Erosion may be either by wind or water, or a combination, but the key is that it’s been going on for a while. Erosion can be started by rivers, glaciers, or lava flows, and later continued by wind. These landscapes can also evolve as a result of unsustainable farming, logging, or mining practices.

The Tortured Land, a badlands north of The Ride and Thar, is remote but by no means ugly.  I think of it like this.

Bandit Wastes

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

The Bandit Wastes, north of Halruaa and southeast of Lapaliiya, probably don’t enter your mind very often.  That might be why you haven’t brought those bandits to justice, or recovered the crown jewels, or whatever.

Neighboring nations and regions include Lapaliiya and Shaareach to the north, Halruaa to the south, and the Mhair Jungles to the west.
