Haunted Halls

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A dungeon near Eveningstar.

Overview

Carved by dwarves from the western face of Starwater Gorge north of Eveningstar, this was once the lair of the human bandit Rivior. After his death the hold was claimed by a string of monsters and mages, whose violent deaths and subsequent hauntings have resulted in the dungeon’s current name. The hold was cleared out during the reign of King Azoun III (circa 1261-1275 DR), and has been officially recorded as unoccupied since then.

Of course the locals know better. Zhentarim and an infestation of kobolds have been mentioned in recent rumors.

The Halls of the Hammer

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

An abandoned dwarven hold in the northeastern High Moor, east of Highstar Lake and west of Mount Hlim. The original name is lost, at least to human lore; the dungeon is named for a glowing, flying, animated warhammer. Adventurers have returned with tales of helmed horrors, a large chamber that is sometimes empty and sometimes features a hundred human corpses hanging on ceiling chains, and at least five roaming watchghosts.

A homestead which became known as Hammer Hall was later built nearby by adventurers delving into the Halls.

Ilimar

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A city split in two, or two cities united by a portal, depending on your perspective.

The northern ruin lies in the Gulthmere Forest, near the south shore of the Lake of the Long Arm. Lamia nobles descended from Nessmara rule here.

The southern ruin stands on the eastern slopes of Muaroghal, north of Rethild. A circle of spirit naga inhabit the ruins and are worshiped as gods by the lizardfolk of Kethid.

Many millennia ago, Ilimar was established by a sarrukh clan supplying Isstosseffifil and Mhairshaulk with slaves.

The colloquial name for an ancient ruin, apparently once inhabited by a serpent race. Quinix, a glabrezu, rules a growing horde of gnolls here, and utilizes at least one portal in the ruins to summon other tanar’ri.

Irongard

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A tomb found beneath a black stone (a particularly tough and durable obsidian, enspelled in Netheril long ago) statue of an armored warrior, located in the Stonelands. The tomb served as the home of the wizard Iyarim, and the name is a corruption of Iyarim’s Guard.

Castle Grimstead

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A small ruined keep near Shadowdale village. Reduced now to overgrown foundations, a few teetering walls, and rotting timbers. Noteworthy because the cellars have been breached by drow tunnels, connecting with the lower levels of the Twisted Tower and descending to a deep subterranean lake and from there to the unmapped Underdark.

Castle Krag

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A fortress near Shadowdale.

Castle Krag, like the Twisted Tower, was built long ago by drow.

It was claimed more recently by Jyordhan, the Zhentarim puppet who briefly ruled Shadowdale. After his death the tower fell again into disrepair, but someone or something keeps repairing the catapults and occasionally fires a missile into the outlying farms of the dale. So far, nobody has been overly eager to enter the ruin and put a decisive stop to it.

Gharri also briefly claimed the tower, before meeting his doom, but his control was short-lived.

Dragonspear Castle

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

Dragonspear Castle is a ruined fortification on the Trade Way, on the southwest edge of the High Moor, between Daggerford and Soubar. The Misty Forest and Trollbark Forest are about 50 miles to the north and west respectively.

The castle brings more peril than protection. It seems every few winters it’s seized by humanoids or fiends, until adventurers clear them out, until it’s seized again a few years later. Rumors hint that a portal to the Lower Planes sits in one of the cellars, disgorging a steady stream of foes. There’s also reason to believe that there are tunnels leading up to those cellars from the Underdark.
