At a Glance

A small range of hills in the Eastern Shaar south of Mulhorand. The crumbling ruins of Shandaular may be found in the hills, but are considered holy ground (and aggressively defended) by the local tribes.

Maiden’s Tomb Tor

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.


At a Glance

A hill east of Waterdeep.

A tribe of kobolds some 450 strong, led by Kuthil, have recently taken up residence beneath the Tor. They seem to be occupied with securing their realm, and have not yet begun to harass Waterdeep or Goldenfields in numbers.

The Rat Hills

At a Glance

Hills south of Waterdeep; used as the garbage dump of the city.

The Unseen and their minions dwell in the Rat Hills.

Monsters known to lair in the Rat Hills include catoblepas, giant centipede, crawling claw, ear seeker, jackalwere, kobold, land lamprey, leucrotta, mimic, mongrelman, neo-otyugh, otyugh, poisonous frog, giant rat, rot grub, sea zombie, shambling mound, skeleton, animal skeleton, huge spider, wererat, wild dog, and zombie. The presence of the Unseen means that doppelgangers, greater doppelgangers, and changesteeds are also here, even though most folks may not know about them. Of course, all manner of fungi can also be found here.

The Maerthwatch

At a Glance

The Hills of Maerth, also called the Maerthwatch, are a range of low hills found in central Chessenta, running eastward from the northern Adder Peaks to the Akanamere, then northeast to the Adderswamp.

There are no human communities within the hills, but several nearby settlements, including Maerduuth, Oslin, Saden, and Villon.

Terrestrial Environment

Hills comprise one of ten categories of terrestrial environments, the others being badlands, deserts, forests, marshes, moors, mountains, plains, swamps, and subterranean.

Hills of the Realms

Cold: Berun’s Hill, Crags.

crossroads guardian, divine minion, hakeashar, Innugaakalikurit, kupuk, phaerimm, spectator, Statue That Walks, tirichik.  Innugaakalikurit, kupuk, and tirichik are only encountered on the Great Glacier.  Statues That Walk are only encountered in Mulhorand.

Temperate: Hill of Tombs, Serpent Hills.
