The Cold Field

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A moorland between Scardale, Harrowdale, and the edge of Cormanthor.

This field has seen many battles, and it is still perennially controlled by the restless spirits of the fallen. It’s calm enough in the summer that shepherds can graze their sheep here, but only the ludicrously drunk or stupid come here in winter.

Thar

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

Thar, sometimes called the Great Gray Land, is a moor of the Moonsea North dominated by ogres, orcs, and embattled communities of humans. There have been two kingdoms named Thar, the first ruled by ogre Tharkuls until some seventy winters ago and the second by the humans who killed the last Tharkul. The human kingdom has now fallen too, and it’s a safe bet that the ogres are forming a new kingdom.

Thazalhar

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A desolate region north of Mulhorand and south of Thay. Most of the battles between the gods during the Orcgate Wars took place here, and the land has never recovered.

Thazalhar is claimed and patrolled by Thay, but it is secretly watched by Mulhorand as well. Skirmishes are infrequent due to the use of concealing magic, but when they occur they are always fatal — each patrol will seek to annihilate the other in order to seize magic and prevent a report from being made.

Moors

Terrestrial Environment

Moors comprise one of ten categories of terrestrial environments, the others being badlands, deserts, forests, hills, marshes, mountains, plains, swamps, and subterranean.

A moor is a shrubland, typically a plateau, characterized by low-growing plants, acidic soil, and fog… lots of fog.  Depending on who you talk to, it might be similar to a heath.

Moors of the Realms

Cold: Evermoors, Fallen Lands, Lonely Moor.

Temperate: Battle of Bones, Cold Field, High Moor.

High Moor

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

The High Moor is a large moorland inhabited by trolls, orcs, and hobgoblins, among less dangerous creatures like wild sheep.  Due to its creation by dark magic, the moor bounds rather than being bounded by the features at its periphery.

Visiting

What You See

I may, of course, be entirely wrong, but this is what comes to my mind when I think of the High Moor. Well… with a few hostile locals running this way.

Roads

The Trade Way runs south and west of the moor, but there are no recognized roads within.

Notable Individuals

Several dragons lair in the High Moor, including red (Maughrysear), copper (Aaronarra and Carynnallerastis), amethyst (Sh’derra D’zeer), and a family of black dragons (Aswidorg, Calathanorgoth, Cheleen, Vilholin, Wastirek, Woklef) plus Maelestor Rex, who is apparently unrelated. Nymmurh feeds here (traveling through portals of his own devising) from time to time. Saquathos and Zilanthar were offspring of Calathanorgoth, but they were slain in the dracorage of 1018 DR.
