Mishtan

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A community of Mulhorand.

Mishtan is the entrance to the Land of the Dead, and as such the town is dominated by the church of Osiris. At flood times, the town is overflowing with masons, craftsmen, and slaves.

Visiting

What You See

From a distance, Mishtan resembles a large city; it accommodates about 30,000 residents in relative comfort during the tomb-building season. For the remainder of every year however, the population is much smaller, making many parts of the city look abandoned. One thing remains the same; the dominant feature of the city is always the sprawling central temple of Osiris.

The temple is marble, typical in its conservative Osirian design. Like the town, the temple is simple and functional, utterly lacking in expensive furnishings and fixtures.

The remainder of the city is clay brick, with very little effort put into “dressing it up” or making things overly comfortable. There are no noble dwellings here, and no part of the city stands higher than the floor of the temple. Except for the temple, and the sheer size of the city, it would look much like a typical fishing village along one of Mulhorand’s rivers.

In short, there’s nothing most adventurers would find worth journeying here to see, or steal.

Politics

Who Rules

Temis, the Precept of Mishtan, governs the town and the Land of the Dead.

Who Really Rules

Temis is in charge, officially. However, the church of Osiris wields ultimate power here… particularly during the tomb-building season when the incarnation of Osiris is often present.

Road to the Dawn

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

This is a road leading from Skuld to Zindalankh.

The Xaeyruudh Campaign

The Dawn is a reference to the genesis of the God-Kings of Mulhorand and Unther. The road is the path trod by the God-Kings and their followers, circa -2500 DR, as they left the burning wasteland of Raurin and tamed the hinterlands that became Mulhorand and Unther.

The civilized part of the road (the part that wasn’t turning to sand or being prowled by fearsome warped beasts) later became the basis of a trade road between Mulhorand and the then-revitalized eastern city of Zindalankh.

Today, the road is well-marked, guarded, and maintained between Skuld and Maerlar. At that point the trade road (commonly referred to as the Road to the Dawn) continues east to Zindalankh through the increasingly desolate southern reaches of Murghôm while the original (and now forgotten by most) road turns south and quickly becomes lost under the silt of the Plains of Purple Dust.

With divine guidance and plenty of protection, various hierarchs and adventurers over Mulhorand’s history have retraced the ancient path as far as the kingdom of Raurin’s historic northern border. Once into the wasteland, however… perhaps only the manifestations themselves could find the path back to their origin.

The Orcgate Wars

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A series of conflicts which took place in eastern Faerûn beginning in -1076 DR and ending in -1069 DR. Narfell, Raumathar, Thay, and Chessenta had not yet been founded, but the nations now known as the First Empires of Mulhorand and Unther were shaken and subsequently entered a period of decline which lasted until about -150 DR.

In the aftermath of this event, orcs were exterminated across the lands of Mulhorand and Unther. Even today, the only place in the Old Empires where they can survive in any numbers is within the Akanapeaks. In the cities of Mulhorand and Unther, orcs are attacked on sight.
