Thayan Enclave

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

A mercantile community within an established settlement, run by the Red Wizards of Thay.

Thayan Enclaves of Faerûn

The Xaeyruudh Campaign

There will be a few changes, additions, and clarifications to the list assembled from official sources.

  • As noted in LoD, there are no Enclaves in Aglarond, Mulhorand, or Rashemen; they are also banned in Cormyr and Shadowdale due to the influence of the Harpers
  • Karatin — as part of a deal allowing a Shou Town to be built in Bezantur, Thay successfully negotiated a Thayan Enclave in Karatin

Source

  • Lords of Darkness [11989] page 65 lists several enclaves; pages 65-77 describe the enclave in Proskur as an example

Zulkirs

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

At a Glance

The Zulkirs number eight; one for each school of magic. In theory, they form a council which leads the Red Wizards and rule the nation of Thay. In practice, each forms temporary alliances only in the interest of furthering their own agenda and personal power. None is recognized as the sole sovereign of Thay, but all are afforded the deference due a king and the reverence due a god; death (and perhaps subsequent undeath) is the usual price of disrespect.

The first Zulkirs declare themselves the masters of Thay in 1030 DR, and successfully defend themselves and impose their will on the commoners and lesser wizards for the next 44 years. After that point they are generally accepted in Thay. Individual challengers have come and gone since then, but no large-scaled resistance has been successfully mounted.

Notable Individuals

Ythazz Buvaar is noted as one of the first Zulkirs, but his school isn’t listed. [FR6]
