The Magisters of Waterdeep

This information is intended for use with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

Not to be confused with the Magister who serves Mystra.

At a Glance

There are twenty-six Magisters, or magistrates, or Black Robes, in Waterdeep. They hear cases in court at the Palace. During the daylight hours, there is also a Magister at each of the city gates. Anyone who is unhappy with the Magister’s sentence can appeal to the Lord’s Court. In such appeals, the Magisters’ word is usually upheld, or reworded in a minor way.

The Lord’s Court is chaired by Piergeiron, and always attended by at least two other Lords. Murders and other severe crimes, suspicious deaths, rape, misuse of magic, etc, bypass the Magisters and go directly to the Lord’s Court.

Magisters should be played as good, perceptive, and incorruptible.
